This is a little outside my bailiwick, but a real brief “elevator pitch” description of FullMetalUpdate is that it’s container-based, which allows continuous integration, security, and versatility it supports delta updates to save bandwidth and power it’s unbrickable, which means that whatever happens during an update, the device will always boot and run its applications and there’s no downtime, apart from waiting for your applications to restart, because everything else is performed in the background. This solution is called FullMetalUpdate, which has a certain ring to it. For example, I just heard from a company called Witekio that they’ve launched a fully integrated open-source solution for the over-the-air (OTA) update for IoT developers. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I never fail to be amazed by the way in which one thing leads to another. Most amateurs and hobbyists use a twist-and-fold technique, but the Western Union Splice is mechanically stronger and results in a lower profile.
